Through creative and focused planning, common areas should be purposeful, accessible and easily adaptable to offer a variety of flexible activities that encourage personal connections. Milford, IA – 22 beds, assisted living addition to skilled nursing facility<br /><br />Warm touches define this multifunctional common area. Here residents can surf the internet, socialize with friends and relax in front of the fireplace.

Des Plaines, IL – 100 beds, independent living<br /><br />The goal for this project was to transform the lounge area into a place where residents can read, watch TV and play games. Design features include dimmable fluorescent lamps, acoustic-control carpeting and wall coverings that support the library-style theme.

McKinney, TX – 54 assisted living beds and 24 memory care beds<br /><br />The fireplace is the focal point of the room featuring rich stone from floor to ceiling. Flexible seating can expand into the adjacent game room for larger events.

Accent walls, soft lighting and natural elements work together to create intimate areas appropriate for one-on-one or small group conversations. Breaking up the space in this way provides a more hospitality-like setting versus traditional, expansive common rooms.

Winter Haven, FL – 118 skilled nursing beds, 34 assisted living units<br /><br />Open and airy, this conversationally set common area leads into the adjacent dining and food preparation area.
